Our Purpose

Welcome to Rice GMMA! We strive to inform pre-health students of fellowship and networking opportunities for pre-health students, provide summer medical missions opportunities for pre-health students interested in learning more about medical missions, and provide guidance from Christian mentors for students aspiring to become healthcare professionals dedicated to expanding God’s Kingdom.

Meet the Rice GMMA Board!

Looking back at Jesus’ final moments before He ascended into Heaven, He commanded His disciples to be a part of the Great Commission and make disciples of all nations. Throughout my time in GMMA, I have come to understand that as believers, our purpose in life is to bring God glory through sharing the good news with others. I have also learned that my career aspirations are not separate from my own personal faith, but rather, they complement one another: physical healing is a tool to open hearts for spiritual healing. I am excited to see how God can use GMMA here on campus to bring together fellow believers to join up and spread His holy word to those around us.

For me, GMMA is a reflection of our role as Christians in the world. It is the place where I have witnessed God’s loving kindness poured out onto hurting people, and the place where I learned to humble myself to serve the people that God loves so much. I am blessed to have this opportunity where I can live, laugh, and love with my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, but also give, suffer, and die.

Growing up in a church that was really about the Great Commission, I participated in a ministry that reached out to the unbelievers around us and went on many mission trips close to home and far. From these experiences, I’ve noticed that many people come to know Christ during times of vulnerability. I think GMMA really provides for those who are vulnerable in many ways. We are able to provide them physical, mental, and, most importantly, spiritual healing by pointing to the source of all healing and goodness: God, our Heavenly Father. As Christians, we are all called to be missionaries to spread the Good News. I am excited and blessed that through GMMA, I am able to serve God through missions, to provide complete healing in God’s people and to ultimately grow God’s kingdom! I am also excited for this Rice chapter of GMMA to continue to grow as a family that will be part of God’s work together!

We are called to share the Gospel as well as God’s love, and GMMA accomplishes this purpose in a beautiful manner. Through GMMA, I want to be a part of using medicine as a tool for God’s glory and see for myself how the realms of physical and spiritual health can overlap. Language and distance are only small barriers that can be stepped over in light of God’s great love and His Great Commission. I look forward to being a part of GMMA’s growth here at Rice and eager to see all the hearts moved by Him.

Matthew 5:14-16 commands us to shine the light of Christ to the ends of the earth in a manner that glorifies our Father in heaven. In doing so, we are called as believers to live a life that is fully transparent; the light we display through our character and actions is not that of our own, but that of Christ within us. As a pre-health organization, GMMA is called to shine the healing power that the og doctor (for lack of better terms) Jesus emits. Through GMMA, I have witnessed God’s healing power: not just physical healing of the body, but spiritual renewal of the soul as well. The power of Jesus’ healing power is not limited to restoring the broken, but promoting growth beyond previous measure. As Rice GMMA, I pray that we would shine as the light of Christ to not only heal and renew, but also grow and build God’s kingdom. Not just in the mission field, but during these difficult times, on our respective campuses as well. Peck ‘em and bless ‘em.

GMMA was one of the first communities that I found in college with a focus on God’s calling for us, His children, to shine His light in the world. Being a part of GMMA has helped me stay grounded on a Kingdom-focused mindset when planning for my future as well as staying motivated and humble in the present. I am excited to be a part of GMMA as a chapter officer and witness how God works miracles in the lives around me.

Through GMMA I was able to witness how God moves in His people. I was deeply touched when I saw all the students and mentors gather together with a shared faith and desire to spread the Gospel through the work they were called to do. As I serve in GMMA, I hope to deepen my relationship with Christ and learn to take steps of humility as I show love and kindness to others. It warms my heart to know that students from so many communities are uniting as one body in Christ, with the purpose to grow His kingdom in heaven. I am grateful to have this opportunity to be a part of this mission to reveal the love and peace of Christ to those we serve.
