President

Hey y’all, welcome to Occidental College GMMA. My name is Nicholas and I am a third-year Biochemistry major and Neuroscience minor. I heard of GMMA through a friend at church before I started to attend Occidental College. At the time, Occidental College did not have a GMMA chapter. At the end of my second year, I decided to start a chapter at Occidental College. I decided to do this because there is no club like GMMA that combines both Pre-Health and Christianity. At church, I was always told to be the salt and light of the world, but when working there are so many rules and regulations that make it hard for people to share the word of God. Through GMMA, I want students to learn how to spread the word of God, strengthen their relationship with the Lord, and gain experience working with patients. I believe it would be great for students at Occidental College to be equipped with the word of God, but also to strive as future health professionals. I hope you join us and I am excited to meet each and every one of you.

I chose to join GMMA because it’s vision reminded me that medicine and faith are not mutually exclusive. As passionate as I am about these two things, I have always seen them as two separate entities that have their own place in my life. Over the years, I feel God has been showing me that He should be in all aspects of what I do, and GMMA is one of those doors God has opened up for me to strengthen my foundation in Him. I was particularly drawn to how GMMA bridges the gap between medicine/health with prayer and Christianity. As a first-time member of GMMA’s team, I’m excited and curious to experience how powerful prayer and fellowship can be in the context of healthcare. I know these upcoming experiences will provide me with invaluable lessons that will continue to stay with me in all my walks of life as a Christian and a healthcare worker.

I joined GMMA because I was drawn to the intersectionality of my faith and pursuit of a career in medicine. I believe medical missions are a powerful tool to reach those in need of not only physical but also spiritual healing. I was drawn to the idea of being able to go on a medical mission trip through GMMA with other brothers and sisters in Christ to be able to bring God’s healing hand to those in need.

I joined GMMA because I believe that this organization serves a great purpose and mission in my life. It opens new opportunities and experiences for students from all over the world. I often found myself distracted with school work and extracurricular activities, which limited me from practicing my faith. However, with GMMA, I am yet reminded that God works in everyone’s lives and has a plan for each and every one of us. This organization helps me stay accountable with my faith and academics!!

I chose to be a part of GMMA because it allows me to experience the unique intersection between my Christian faith and my passion for the health field. As the Missions Coordinator, I hope to create this same opportunity for members seeking a way to work through the hands of the Lord, while also actively pursuing a career in medicine. I am looking forward to a fun and faithful year!

I joined GMMA because I felt God calling me to explore the intersection of my faith and my career path. GMMA, as I am quickly coming to learn, is not only a place where students can grow their sense of mission and direction, but it is also a family of brothers and sisters all working towards the same goal. I am so deeply encouraged by this community of faithful children of God, and I feel very blessed to be a part of God’s Kingdom work. Our chapter at Occidental is a new one and we are still learning, but I can already see God working, and I trust that He will blossom this chapter beautifully. We have a perfect example of radical servanthood in Jesus, and I love that GMMA is helping so many students grow in Christlikeness and obey God’s call to mission.

I decided to be part of Oxy’s GMMA chapter because I so deeply want other people around the world to learn about who Jesus Christ is. I understand that I was put on this earth by God and for God and therefore my purpose is to serve God. Missions is something God has placed on my heart. Overall, this organization coupled my Christian faith and passion for overseas missions with my drive to go into medicine.

Our Oxy GMMA chapter is made up of students who plan to go into healthcare professions. As humble servants of God, we’ve created this club with the intention of fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus Christ through our path in becoming healthcare workers. We will be working to plan and organize mission trips through this chapter and go where we feel called to be an extension of God’s healing hands. We hope you pray and consider if God has called you to missions and regardless we welcome you to be a part of this chapter.
