“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20
GMMA June 2020 Monthly Newsletter
We certainly recognize that these past few months have been a uniquely challenging time for both our students and our mentors. For our students, graduating and finding one’s next professional steps in these uncertain times may feel daunting. For our mentors, adjusting to the changes demanded of us in the workplace in regards to procedure and/or patient volume has been equally daunting. On behalf of all of GMMA’s mentors, I would like to recognize and continue uplifting all of GMMA’s healthcare professionals working to make this world healthier. For our mentors, these times are an even greater reminder of the need to not only be steadfast in our service to patients but to also be unwavering in our commitment to blessing and raising the next generation of Christian healthcare professionals.
Despite the challenges both behind and ahead of us, God is faithful to His people. We here at GMMA continue to see the Lord’s hand at work guiding our organization and making valuable, personal connections. I reiterate – God is faithful. At this moment, I’d like to thank the following new mentors whom God has called to serve their respective university chapters– Dr. Joseph Kim at Yale University, Dr. Tae Kon Kim at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Young Jun Kim at Vanderbilt University, and Dr. Daniel Shin at UCLA. Welcome to the GMMA family; we appreciate your commitment dearly and offer our warmest, virtual handshakes. You are not only joining a professional network but more importantly, a family of mission-focused believers spread across the world.
Let us continue persevering in our faith, and let us never forget who reigns above all during these times– Christ, and only Him. May God continue to bless you and keep you all safe.

Professional Development
Many of the GMMA professionals are engaged in lending a hand locally during this difficult time.
Praise the Lord that the list is too long to specify in this section. Since most of the borders are closed for abroad medical mission trips, they are giving some of their time to volunteering at free clinics, serving churches to set up safety measures for the reopening, help making care packages for local refugee families, volunteer to distribute food, join online prayer meetings with postgrads and students, and giving individual supports to missionaries ministries. Professionals also gathered on line to address the rising civil unrest in June and prayed for the members experiencing difficulty due to the impact of it. Some of our members are going through job transitions due to the pandemic as well. Let us continue to pray for strong faith in Christ to overcome the adjustments and challenges. Lastly, some of the mentors and young professionals gathered in masks and gloves to assist packaging 73 graduation gifts for the 2020 college graduates of GMMA. It was a great time
of working, sharing fellowship, and praying together. We hope to do the same for our postgrads graduating from professional schools.
We sincerely want to thank our volunteer leaders for dedicating their time to encourage and guide our members during these uncertain times.
We are grateful for our 2019-2020 regional coordinators for your hard work and dedication. We are excited for your futures and will continuously pray for God’s guiding hand on your lives.
We also want to warmly welcome our new regional coordinators of the new 2020-2021 academic year! Thank you for your servant hearts for wanting to grow and further His kingdom!

Regional Health Reports
WEST
Praise report
All chapters on the West Coast have officially ended the school year, and despite the unforeseen circumstances that have been placed on our students, they were able to adapt to the changes and finish the academic year! We also have a new chapter that will be going us, Occidental College, and we are excited to see how a community will be formed there. Because of COVID-19, and its impact on summer missions, our presidents have gotten together to talk briefly about the changes that are to come, by preparing for summer events that will keep us all connected despite the physical distance. As a result, our chapters will continue to meet monthly for accountability and fellowship throughout the summer.
Needs
With the 2020 academic school year ending, we are now entering a phase of transition with our chapters’ officers and West Coast regional coordinators. Please pray that for a smooth transition and for the hearts of those have decided to serve. We want officers to be reminded that they should not get caught up on the logistics of things, but rather that they would not forget the joy and purpose in serving. Please also pray for an informative, blessed time in our upcoming leadership retreat in August.
Regional Coordinator Message:
As we transition into the summer, we have 3 new regional coordinators that will be serving. Julianne is a 2018 graduate from UC Berkeley, Erica is a 2019 graduate from USC, and I, Caitlin, am a 2019 graduate from UCSB. We are all currently taking a gap year, and have been blessed with the opportunity to serve God during this stage of our lives. As we prepare to take more responsibility, please pray that we would have wisdom upon us to lead the students and for our personal journey with God to be strengthened. In this past month, I personally was reminded of the joy in serving God, and was encouraged by seeing everyone gathering across the country to pray for our nation during the socio-political events that are occurring. I pray that we will continue to come together to pray for one another, and that we would find peace and rest in Him, in all aspects of our lives.
CENTRAL
Praise report
For this past month, the central region GMMA chapter officers have been meeting every 2-4 weeks and been keeping each other accountable in their walk with the Lord. They’re having prayer meetings continuously and have already started to pray for the upcoming semester amid the uncertainties that lie ahead. This past month, we had a joint prayer meeting with East Coast GMMA Chapters which was a huge blessing.
Needs
Most of the chapters’ needs are continuous support through prayer for the upcoming year. A lot of the chapters are uncertain of what school would look like when they return, but they’re trusting that God would use their situation for His glory.
Regional Coordinator Message:
It’s only been about 3 months for Jonathan and one month for me since we became the new Central Regional Coordinators. One thing that’s been on our hearts since we started was praying for the social injustice in this country that our brothers and sisters go through. We were moved seeing so many people in pain and divided, and we were encouraged to see GMMA come together to pray over it. Although we as individuals can’t solve everything on our own, we were happy to see GMMA come together to pray to our God who can carry our burdens.
EAST COAST
Praise Report:
The majority of the chapters have transitioned from 2019-2020 officers to the new 2020-2021 officers! Praise the Lord! During such an uncertain time in our nation, our officers are still planning and meeting regularly. It is amazing how God works through each individual and it is so encouraging that so many students and officers are willing to serve!
Regional Outreach & Needs:
It is many officers’ first time on a GMMA officer board. Let’s pray for their hearts and passion to serve God. Please pray that they do not lose the passion and love for God in their hearts and that they do not get emotionally or physically drained during this hard time in our nation! Please pray that we will trust and rely in God’s plan. Lastly, lets pray for NOVA University as they are the newest addition to our East Coast campuses. Let us pray for the NOVA leaders that in all that they do, they will do it for God’s kingdom.
Regional Coordinator Message:
I read Psalm 11 today and there was one verse that stood out to me: Psalm 11:1 “I trust in the Lord for protection.” During this difficult and strange time in our nation, this verse was very encouraging and reassuring to hear. Sometimes we can feel like God may not be with us during the hardest parts of our lives. But I have been constantly reminded by the amazing leaders of GMMA, the testimonies of others, and all the sacrifices that everyone has made that God is amazing.
Australia
Praise Report:
Thank God that we are finding different avenues to encourage one another. Thank God that we were able to organize a zoom-in meet with the Canadian GMMA chapters. Despite the pandemic and disheartening news around the world, it was such a joy to see brothers and sisters in Christ.
Regional Outreach & Needs:
Please pray for the students as they are going in a final exam period. Pray that they can be exemplary students and continue to glorify God through the study. Please pray for health professionals who are involved in GMMA Sydney. Pray that they may stay safe
As a chapter, we do an annual international medical mission trip, but given the current situation, we might be able to travel internationally. Pray that we will find ways for a medical mission trip at the end of the year.
Regional Coordinator Message:
Proverbs 3:5-6 is one of my favorite verses in the bible. Also, I have been reminded of the verses each year in different ways. While everything seems uncertain and chaotic around the world, I pray that we can keep finding ways to acknowledge God who is constant and unchanging.

Prayer Requests
Jesus’ disciples looked at the fierce gale of wind and the waves that were breaking over the boat. They thought they were perishing.
When fear grips us in the midst of this pandemic, what do you look to?
The confused world with all of their uncertainties about the future?
Or to Jesus, our Apostel and High Priest who already paid the penalty of our sins by His dealth on the cross, rose again, upholds all things by the word of His power and sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high?
Let’s fix our eyes upon Jesus, listen to His words in prayer and face tomorrow with confidence in Him.
