Dr. Kim is the Principal of Daeyang Nursing College in Malawi, Africa. She was the former President of Seoul Cyber University. Prior to that, she taught at Yonsei University and Ewha Womans University. She advanced her nursing career as a staff nurse in a delivery room, ob & gyn, med-surgical, ER, geriatric, and oncology units, then worked as the head nurse at a psychiatric ward. Dr. Kim was the first nurse with a doctorate in Nursing Science (Boston University, 1978) in Korea.

Professor Kim established the first community-based mental health nursing center in Korea (1990). Recognizing the effectiveness of the caring skills in rehabilitating the long-term mental patients with easy access and an affordable cost, UNDP funded her pilot project during 1996-8. Dr. Kim is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.

She was the recipient of 2001 International Achievement Award (ICN-Nightingale International Foundation) and Florence Nightingale Medal (2007, International Red Cross). Dr. Kim was also a Fulbright scholar, and she received an honorary doctorate (1997) from Penza State University in Russia. Dr. Kim is the author of Compassionate Caring Makes Miracle (2010), Interpersonal Caring (2012), and 22 other books
